9mm For Ccw - Concealed carry pistols are a unique conundrum. Our whole argument for concealed carry pistols is to carry them for self-defense. But we all hope we never use them for their intended protective purpose.
So, what happens next? Are they survival tools you never use? Well, we practice with our carry pistols, shoot them for fun, use them as a tool to teach others, and even shoot competitive league with them.

Hopefully we'll never drain them on defense, we'll likely burn them for other reasons. And while compactness and reliability are important features of a CCW rifle, accuracy is essential in your pistol.

So, as the firearms industry engages in this perfect storm of rushing toward smaller guns, increased efficiency and greater accuracy, who will win? You, the user, do. And you won because this flurry of goals led to the Springfield Armory Hellcat.
Although the Hellcat has only been on the market for a few months, it's easily proven itself in almost every possible metric — especially accuracy.
After reading Springfield Hellcat Review: The Best CCW 9mm, I knew I wanted one of these pistols for myself.
I have been shooting and carrying the Springfield Armory Hellcat since its introduction and have been very pleased. I have shot this pistol a lot, but I have yet to focus on answering the question
Sig Sauer P320: The Perfect 9mm Gun For Concealed Carry?
So, with Minnesota winters being the coldest, I ventured out and took on the challenge. I hung a typical target at 20 yards, which is 3 times the typical self-defense distance of 7 yards (or 21 feet). I fired a 10 round group (that was -10 degrees Fahrenheit, no less) which is a testament to how accurate this pistol is.

How do I shoot a ragged hole at 20 yards with a carry gun? Well, I'm trained and familiar with the Hellcat. This is important for all weapons you use: shoot them and know them. Also, this pistol deserves a lot of praise because it performs so much better than any other handgun I've carried in the past. I usually have a hard time shooting this type of group at 10 yards, let alone 20 yards.
The pistol comes standard with a 1+1 magazine that accepts a flush mount or finger pad – both are included. Additionally, this pistol has a 13+1 magazine, which gives you a fuller gun, but is still very compact.

The Adaptive Grip shape of the Springfield Armory Hellcat ensures you have a firm and repeatable grip on the pistol. Whether it's 90°F and your palms are sweaty, or -10°F like the day I shot my impact groups with semi-numb hands, the adaptive grip shape gives you a good grip on the gun. An adaptive grip texture is also placed on the magazine bottom plate pads for maximum grip on the pistol.
This 10-shot group was obtained from 20 yards on a less-than-ideal day that was -10F with an outside wind chill of -20.
The precision-hammered 3-inch barrel proved its worth on that frozen day at the field range, and the reason my groups were so tight—pushed far beyond normal self-defense ranges.
A smooth trigger is a feature usually reserved for custom firearms and provides the advantage of a consistent, repeatable pull and action. The Hellcat uses one of these standards—along with a nickel-boron-coated trigger group—and, as my experience on the range has shown, it gives you a nice trigger to reduce accuracy.

In addition, the Tactical Rack U-Dot rear sight, which is matched with a tritium and illuminated front sight, creates an excellent sight picture. Aiming is easy and acquisition is fast in different light conditions. In defense or competition, you need to get a clean image as quickly as possible and the Hellcat certainly allows for that. Go for the OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) version and you can mount a micro red dot camera on the Hellcat slide that partners with U-dot sights.
Additionally, the Hellcat has front and rear sliding cogs with rear cogs on the slider for more purchase. A side rail rests on a dust cover and a stand in its opening holds the gun in battery when the target is pressed. Reversible magazine release indicator bypasses closed-load chamber.
For those lost in the perfect storm of trying to find the perfect carry gun, Springfield Armory has solved that problem for you with the Hellcat. It's compact, impressively capable, and surprisingly accurate. Checks all the boxes. So check one out for yourself!
