It's the Air Force's 73rd birthday. To mark the occasion, senior government officials and agencies released photos at the United States Navy Memorial.
Air Force Birthday
The State Department tweeted Friday honoring the Air Force but used a photo of the Blue Angels, the Navy's elite display team.

"Today the Department celebrates the 73rd anniversary of @USAirForce," the official account reads. “We join the rest of our nation in honoring the service and sacrifices of the airmen and women of the United States Air Force past and present. #USAF73”.
The department, which did not respond to a request for comment, eventually deleted the tweet - but that wasn't the only mistake.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio also tweeted: "Happy 73rd Birthday @usairforce! We are grateful to all the men and women of the United States Air Force who bravely fought and defended the safety of our great nation." Along with a picture of the Blue Angels. A few minutes later he deleted it very quickly.
Rep. John Carter of R-Texas used a photo of an F-35 Joint Strike Fighter - except that underneath the Lightning II was another F/A-18 Hornet from the Blue Angels show team that's in The Transition now, it was there. From vintage aircraft to F/A-18E/F Super Hornets.
Happy 74th Birthday To The United States Air Force
The internet reacted quickly and many drew attention to the gaffe. Others derisively wished the Air Force good luck, using images of sailors and aircraft carriers.
Even the Office of the Chief of Naval Intelligence noticed this error, jokingly posting a message from the State Department: "Happy birthday @usairforce, but we're not giving you @BlueAngels. Aircraft carriers are also just @USNavy."
Dave Brown of Politico noted that Senate candidate Amy McGrath of Kentucky posted an ad that talked about her experience with F-15 Eagle footage. McGrath is a former F-18 pilot.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump's re-election campaign released a fundraising ad urging voters to "support our troops" - not the US.

The ad featured an image of Russian soldiers being blown up by a MiG-29 twin-engine jet. It quickly went viral. "Soldier and Air Force [sic] themes set against a sunset sky," reads the description on the Shutterstock photo site.
Responding to the viral ad, Artur Zakirov, the Russian photographer who created the photo, told Politico that he found the mistake "very funny."
