I was thinking of starting my own business one day when I got a call from my media contact in Taurus in June 2020. A new, new 9mm for Taurus. It comes with three 10- or 12-round magazines and is based on the four-inch-barrel G3 full-size 9mm pistol that Taurus came out with not long ago. Knowing that Taurus is very innovative in gun design, I was eager to see the gun, measure it, and write the best Taurus G3c review.

When I finally opened the box, my first impression was that I think we have a winner, ladies and gentlemen. Why I thought so before taking it:

Remember, these are just my quick observations of the gun out of the box. And let's see if they have changed after the shoot. Anyway, it was great from the start. Now let's look at the weapon.

The inside of the frame is pretty clean (except for the oil, of course) - no post-treatment residue here.

Note the slim carving and new front notches. The slide is treated using the tenifera (melanite) process, a method of nitrocarburizing ferrite. This makes the metal harder and more resistant to corrosion. Glock, S&W and others use or have used this process.

I see no foreign handling marks. The bulls literally cleaned up their milling act. Parts are polished as required. The only anomaly I can see is the slide on the barrel - where two separate channels are milled. I'll have to look at other G3c's to see if this is the norm. (As far as I know this is a pre-production pistol and future guns may be different).

Anyway, the thing worked great. Note the polish job on the center feed rail - this is how it came from the factory. This is impressive, especially considering the number of guns I have that don't finish the rail like that. The time and effort I put into making the feed rail smooth over the years...at least I don't need to be here. (For more on the center feed rail, read my review of the Springfield XD(M) .45 - interesting what they did).

Sights are steel and replaceable. The dovetail is a standard size cut, so it's easy to get aftermarket sights quickly. Rear drift adjustment too. The robot helped break the light while I fired the gun.

As I mentioned earlier, the texture seems to be more aggressive than the G2c. I jammed the grip on the G2c with a soldering iron - this grip is identical to this grip. Very aggressive, it keeps the gun firmly in the hand while shooting. But it's not uncomfortable - I like it a lot.

Taurus G2c Vs. Taurus G3c Vs. Taurus G3

The G3c's trigger uses its big brother's face and redesigned safety blade. That's what I don't like about the gun - the safety paddle or trigger has a very sharp edge that hurts my trigger finger after several rounds. If it were my gun, I would find a way to release that edge without compromising functionality.

I made an observation earlier about how the trigger didn't "take or slip" - well, taking it proved that it was light-weight, but some of that was due to its single action. Attacker. I think it weighs only 5 ½ pounds. There is some creep before the striker strikes, but the break is very crisp. It's a good trigger, better than Taurus' previous efforts.

Two magazines on the right as well as a note on the pistol - you get three 12 round magazines with this pistol, unlike some Glocks. It's a welcome touch! Speaking of those magazines, here they are, all lined up…

When Taurus first started posting yellow followers in their journals, I noticed and commented. I like the yellow color - you can tell when the magazine is empty or running out. Witness holes are at 6 and 12 order levels. The back of the magazine is stamped “Caliber 9mm” Made in Brazil, so we know these aren’t McGarr magazines, but that’s okay. I have never had a problem with Taurus magazine feeding or otherwise. Look at the base plate - Something new that Taurus does with these signs is to add a little scallop, some sort of plastic container. It's the same with a similar indentation on the grip...here's a shot of it:

This is just a failsafe if the stamp doesn't fall off - it's easier for you to remove the stamp in a hurry with relief cuts rather than without. This isn't a new feature by any means — other manufacturers have been doing it for years — but Taurus seems to be trying to cram every possible feature into this new product. I think they could remove more from the frame and magnets, make the "dish" a bit deeper, but that's just me. The photo also shows a more aggressive grip shape.

There is nothing new in this Taurus G3c review, very new to speak of. For more information, read the full Taurus G2c review.

I tested the pistol with a few different brands and loads of 9mm ammo – here are three of the most interesting:

Taurus Adds The Compact G3c To Its 9mm G3 Pistol Series

These targets were shot at my backyard range at 15 yards. It was very sunny and the slits in the rear sight worked - no glare. The groups are usually to the right of the target because that's how my eyes work. I used a 6 o'clock hold - maybe increased the center hold groups a bit. However, for both those loads and my eyes, the sights are pretty well adjusted, at least for elevation.

I set my target at 15 yards with three blank targets. I went back to my bench and loaded the gun with a Winchester load. With the release of the single-action trigger, the shot stopped. Recoil is a little sharp, but nothing to write home about - the gun handled perfectly. For the handling aspect I credit the grip texture and ergonomic design.

Sights were easy to pick up and allowed for quick target acquisition. Blanks are thrown well to the right and 10-15 feet back. I repeated the exercise with the NovX load, my hand load, and a few other 9mm loads I had lying around. After shooting the targets, I disassembled my Caldwell ballistic chronograph and measured the velocities - results are above. In the end, the gun shot well and had no quirks or issues. It worked great and the scenery was spectacular. This gun will digest anything you throw at it, including loads of lead bullets.

If you want to know about this newest model and where it will sit in the Taurus lineup, I bet it replaces the G2c. The progression of the "modern" concealed 9mm from the Taurus began with the PT111, which progressed to the PT111 G2, then the G2c. G2c is a great seller and puts a lot of pistol in your hand for three hundred dollars. After the introduction of the four-inch barreled G3 with improved trigger, sights and ergonomics, the launch date of its compact version has been widely debated.

Now that we have the G3c, will the G2 series (G2c, G2s single stack) continue? I don't know, but if past history is any indication, the G2 will eventually be phased out in favor of the G3 series. After all, what's not to like? Three 12-round (or 10-round, in these states) magazines with a choice of 15 or 17 rounds, standard spike/bolt post mount, excellent grip texture, replaceable steel sights that use the new trigger. There are many guns under $300.

So where does that leave us with G2c? Well, this shooter is trying to sell himself to buy a G3c. I love the improvements and "acceptability" of this new platform. I think it's a bit of a fresh start for Taurus - the gun looks more and more - it's grown up to belong in the big leagues. I hope there is a credibility factor as this weapon can put Taurus in a position like never before. Getting an intense look from Taurus earlier
