9mm Beretta Nano - Writing a series report for the 9mm Beretta BU9 Nano since it has been around for over two years.
Maybe it's because Pocket 9 saturated the market and we were busy looking at others, but somehow I'm going to be the first to review it. Either way, I'm happy to come in without any side effects from my worms.
9mm Beretta Nano
Following the Reger LCP and Kimber Solo, but predating the Smith & Wesson Shield, the Beretta Nano is a sub-compact, striker-fired (Beretta's first), bolt-action, bolt-action, semi-automatic pistol .
Beretta Nano: Unnecessarily Unappreciated
It has six rounds of 9mm in its single stack magazine, and one in the chamber. Note: Nano magazine included or not.
This is a plus for a low-capacity rifle in tactical reloading. On the other hand, there is no security breach log. Deleting a log will not prevent accidental release; be extra careful to ensure that the room is clean.
In fact, Beretta's Nano BU9 pistol has no external safety at all. Internally, the Nano has an automatic attack lock and drop safety.
Round edges and no protrusions guarantee trouble-free traction. A small, unobtrusive magazine release button sits flush with the Nano's frame and doesn't interfere with drawing.

Rumor has it that Beretta's original plans were to chamber this little guy in .40 S&W. However, Beretta made it in 9mm, due to the popularity of the 9mm cartridge;
The Nano is one of the smallest and lightest pistols in its class. At 5.63 inches overall, with a 3-inch barrel and a unloaded weight of 20 ounces, recoil will be sharp if the Nano is chambered in .40.
The cool thing about the Nano is its replaceable frame. You see, the Nano is built on a detachable sub-chassis - a serial part of the rifle.
What does that mean and why is it cool? You can also buy frames in FDE, OD green and pink. It also opens up the possibility of different sizes to fit different sizes.

Speaking of looks...when you first see the Beretta Nano, especially on a computer screen, you might think, "I've seen this gun before."
Perhaps it's the angular lines on the slide that are reminiscent of a Taurus TCP or GLOCK-like "safety" trigger. One section described it as, "Looks like GLOCK had a one-night stand with Thor."
I doubt it. It's neither here nor there for me. Sure, I like a good gun, but how it shoots is how it looks.
I recently wrote about "try before you buy," so I decided to take advantage of my gun arena rental fleet and give the Nano a try. In particular, it has the potential to be - on paper - a great rifle for women.

My range requires me to buy a rental gun, so I haven't had a chance to try different ones. Nano owners report that the rifle can be a bit difficult to shoot - preferring a heavier load than the 115-grain FMJ.
When I got to the range they gave me a 115 grain full metal jacket Federal white box gun. The intelligence officer told me that there was no other type of shooting.
I see it as both good and bad. I got to test the gun with an inexpensive range, but I didn't get a chance to see how well the Nano shot a self-defense round.
Once about to shoot, I noticed that Nano was bone dry. This is fine and preferred by me as I am not a stickler for cleaning or oiling my gun.

I had the opportunity to see how the Nano performed in less than perfect conditions. I recommend following the manufacturer's recommendation and oiling your Beretta Nano.
The Nano has a stainless steel insert with a technopolymer handle. The rear strap has a hard plastic dot texture.
When I picked up the Nano, it immediately landed in the sweet spot – nice and natural in the palm of my right hand. I held two full fingers around the magnetic well, which was unsurprisingly pink.
The trigger was very easy to reach without any problems. Halfway through my 50 round box the dot texture started to feel a little rough and aggressive. Finishing the rest of the box was no problem.

From 5 feet I hit the bull on my first shot. This is thanks in part to the Nano's distinct 3-point sights. Access to the center of the target with the front sight is clear, fast and easy.
I liked the Nano sights. There are also night attractions if you want to refresh yourself. After my initial success, the rest of my group fell behind.
That's a pretty long draw compared to other compact polymer guns I'm used to shooting, like the GLOCK, S&W M&P, and Springfield XD, which average five and a half to six pounds.
If you've never fired a gun, imagine pulling the trigger on a bottle of detergent. Think about how much force it takes to pull your finger back to get the spray out of the bottle.

Some bottles will be easier and faster to release the product, while others will require more effort.
I expected something like a S&W .380 bodyguard to feel...pressure...before the trigger broke, but the Nano's trigger broke faster than I expected.
It felt like a six pound weight. The draw is clean and smooth. Was it a worse trigger? K. I have no complaints for a double action gun.
The slide on the Beretta Nano is very smooth. But it feels a bit tight. This could be due to a lack of lube.

When it comes to recoil, the Beretta Nano really comes out on top. I should have mentioned that I shoot a 9mm, not a .380.
Nano is the heaviest, which means it is bigger compared to sliding weight. This helps to lift the mouth when the fire is lit.
With my beginner success and enough groups the Beretta Nano shoots solid. I experienced some questionable hits and one plane that I misfired.
As for how the Nano ran in my series session, I had two failures, both at double power. It probably has something to do with the thin nature of the Beretta and the 115 grain full metal jacket loads I shoot.
Beretta Bu 9 “nano”
The Beretta is definitely a contender as a concealed carry pistol. I like the snapless design, no external security and less than minimal damage.
It is small and easy to conceal without compromising shootability. Easy to operate and maintain. Six rounds of 9mm is a lot, considering how easy the Nano shoots.
If you're feeling more adventurous, buy an extended magazine that will last you two more rounds and more.
The downside to this review is that I did not test Beretta's BU9 Nano with additional ammunition and I apologize for that.

The Department of Justice is announcing a new rule to address fixed regulations and accessories used to convert a handgun into a handgun. On January 13, 2023. For a few years the gun market was pretty good. Most people got a concealed handgun permit, and most didn't want to strap on a big gun every day. I can certainly understand that. For many years I have carried either a full size 1911 in .45 ACP or a 1911 Commander in .45 ACP. However, as I get older, and I feel like I'm getting older these days, I don't always want to carry a big, heavy, loaded gun every day. Now, that doesn't mean I am; it depends on where I'm going and what level of risk I feel. As it happens, the 1911 is at my side.
Although it pains me to admit it, for a while, back in another life, when I was younger and fatter, I regularly carried a .380 ACP Walther PPK/S. At that time I was doing personal research in Chicago. And, the only shot that was reliable was a full metal jacket, which in my humble opinion was not then, nor is it now. So, I would never recommend carrying a rifle in .380 ACP "just" for self-defense, let alone a more powerful caliber, 9mm!
