25b Ait Failure Rate - A soldier whose job it is to create and maintain computer networks and systems. Helping people with computer problems, including replacing components, such as drives and motherboards and routers, and keeping all computer equipment in working order, is a technical information specialist 25B military MOS (military occupational specialty). These are experts in the IT army. I've written before (see my COMPUTER HACKER article) about MOS 17C Cyber 25Bs are the day-to-day, unit-to-unit computer specialists who keep systems running.

This is, without a doubt, one of the best jobs in the Army that translates directly to productive public works, and since the Army will turn you into a computer scientist, you need to be registered for five years in the Army, now it communicates like the whole world communicates. , by computer, so there are plenty of IT professionals to keep them connected, secure. Shooting, moving and communicating is what the military does. That puts the 25B in the link body. AIT (Advanced Individual Training) for the 25B is now 20 weeks at the Army Signal Academy at Fort Gordon, Georgia. This story is specifically about Specialist MOS 25B, I will continue it with another about other signal jobs, because now the Signal Corps is going through a big change.

First, this MOS requires a SECRET security clearance, because of the information they are exposed to, so the person must be cleared, except for minor traffic tickets. Getting a SECRET security clearance involves a background check, which includes a national agency check, public and financial records search, and depending on what it reveals, possible personal interviews.

This includes helping people who are illiterate and returning after work to type something for a manager or back office on a large project. Maybe you are the hero, and maybe you are the invisible man of the computer that makes it work. To be a successful computer scientist, coming out of the military and literally making three times your salary, you have to do more on your own. Ten years ago, 25B, when he was about to leave the military, wrote that Homeland Security had granted him $85,000 a year. You have to get the certificates yourself, and they are required in both the military and the civilian market. A+ N+ Sec + are stairs, then CCNA.

Where are the 25Bs allocated? There are US Army soldiers all over the world. This includes any type of units, signal units, medical units and combat units. There are 25Bs in each Brigade Combat Team, Rangers, and Special Forces (not Green Berets, but assigned to Special Forces units).
Understand this, military IT professionals are soldiers first. As every soldier is first and foremost a soldier. Basic combat training is now as strong and complete as it has ever been. It's a 12 to 14 hour day, six days a week for 10 weeks, turning people from civilians into soldiers. Every soldier in the military, regardless of occupation, must take the Army Fitness Test (ACFT) once a year, be qualified with their pistol, and enter the gas chamber once a year. The two main things that help soldiers get promoted are their ACFT scores and weapons qualification scores. You may be the smartest computer technician in your unit, but if your PT (Physical Education) scores start to drop, you'll see the dumb boys get promoted ahead of you. The army is absolutely strict about physical condition. ACFT has a unique scoring system, with no allowance for gender or age. Only, is this soldier fit to serve in the war.

Some comments from 25B. This was written by one of the sergeants of 25B, who has been in the army for seven years; "It's a very rewarding job in itself, but don't expect to be noticed or rewarded for your work or advancement in the field." You will not be noticed because you do not maintain updates. and the software is still in place, you'll never see users unless they request that their account password be locked." outperform my peers. It's hard to advance in this MOS, but I made it to Master Sergeant in 6 years by was licensed, worked hard, and went above and beyond to learn things I had never touched before. . One said; "If you are the most skilled guy in your unit, you will get 0 units because they don't want you out. You will never go to PCS (Permanent Change of Station) because your unit isn't I don't want you to leave. You'll get calls to come back because the manager needs to add some random stuff." Another said the parts seem to hold the 25B pretty well.
Enrollment requirements for this MOS include being eligible for military service, being able to obtain a secret security clearance, and scoring above 95 on the ST (Skilled Technical) portion of the ASVAB. ST has the following tests; General Science, Vocabulary, Math and Machine Learning. A score of 95 is not very high. A candidate for 25B should have GT and ST scores in the 120s. Completion of high school algebra is also required, as is normal color vision. Other qualities you should have to be successful in this MOS. You must be a computer guy. Not just someone who uses a computer and thinks this will be a high paying job, but someone who is fascinated by the computer and its operating system, someone who knows TCP/IP who can install a network through a router and many computers and printers. Past and present 25B comments about AIT are that having computer skills before enlisting is a huge advantage in AIT. Some have said that the army teaches you everything you need to know in AIT, which is true, but if you are not computer literate, AIT is very difficult. Another 25B suggested buying two computers, some network gear (cisco) (2 routers and 2 switches) and start learning how they all work. One said; "Don't do that, download GNS3." If you are smart enough to find an OS for routers, you can install it. It gives you multi-vendor access, it lets you simulate large devices to do things like aggregate MPLS backbones, it monitors BGP, it lets you generate traffic to send to all devices, and it has the general public. One said that may be true, but there's nothing like holding the right tool. All that said, study, study and study at AIT.
The AIT for the 25B will likely be more than 20 weeks for civilians reading this. About half of MOS 25L cable system operators/maintainers are being consolidated into 25B. These are the guys sitting next to the truck who put a thousand colored wires in their right place. I'm guessing it will be 23 or 24 weeks. AIT at Fort Gordon appears to be more restrictive than AIT at other locations. More freedom than basic, but almost no free time during the week. A few said there are many accountability processes (four to five) per day, and should be early in each one. Three people in one room, with three beds and wall locks, but one table and chair and one toilet. All
